Kyushu University Joint Graduate School of Mathematics for Innovation

Simulated Lesson Video by Faculty Members of JGMI

Date:August 8, 2023

Information

On Sunday, August 6, the Open Campus was held at Kyushu University’s Ito Campus.
The following is the lecture video provided by the faculty members in charge of the Joint Graduate School of Mathematics for Innovation.

Computable and Incomputable – History and Mathematics of the Theory of Computation / Assistant Professor Takeo Uramoto

******************
In the theory of computation, “what is mechanically computable” is rigorously defined based on computational models, and provides a framework for discussing mathematically, qualitatively and quantitatively “what propositions can be mechanically determined to be true or false (in the sense of computability by computational models)” or “if computable, how much computation is required for that”. This course gives a framework for discussing these questions mathematically, qualitatively and quantitatively.
In this simulated class, the mathematical content of the theory of computation will be reviewed, touching on the historical background and practical influences of the theory of computation.

From the Inclusion Principle: Square Numbers and Monkey Movements / Assistant Professor Yasuhiro Ishitsuka

******************
The inclusion principle is a concept that comes into play when counting the number of elements in a set. In this mock lecture, I will discuss its application in number theory and situations where similar ideas have appeared in collaborative research in other fields.
