Young Mentors
About “Young Mentors”
Young Mentors (Post-doctoral researchers) who are of the same generation as the students provide detailed care that cannot be covered by other mentors, and support mainly in “Basic Mathematical Modeling” and “Advanced Mathematical Modeling.”
Post-doctoral researchers in the fields of Mathematics, Information Science and Electrical Engineering, and Economic Engineering, whose specialization is close to the student, will be assigned to each student, and provide consultation on study and research.

KATAGIRI Yu
Non-archimedean analysis, non-archimedean functional analysis, distributions.
I study number theory, especially, non-archimedean analysis. Currently, I am interested in the p-adic Fourier theory, which describes the relation between p-adic distributions and some rigid analytic functions and has applications to construction of p-adic L – functions.

Cheng Yuzhong
Probability and Statistics, Deep Learning
My work sits at the intersection of probability theory, statistics, and deep learning. At the moment, I focus on statistical inference for stochastic differential equations (SDEs)—parameter estimation, high-frequency sampling, asymptotic theory. I am also interested in deep-learning-based estimation methods and limit theorems of interacting particle systems.
Activities of “Young Mentors”
Mathematics for Innovation Cafe
The “Mathematics for Innovation Cafe (MfI Cafe)” is our original activity designed to deepen exchanges by introducing research on mathematics in an easy-to-understand way and by exchanging opinions from a variety of perspectives with the participation of program members and graduate students, as well as undergraduate students interested in the program.
In the fiscal year 2024, we also held a Joint MfI Café with multiple young mentors to promote interdisciplinary exchange.

Mathematics for Innovation Seminar
The “Mathematics for Innovation Seminar (MfI Seminar)” is a seminar that would be presented by mathematicians who are working on applications in other fields or non-mathematicians who are applying mathematics. The program is organized by the students of the JGMI and supported by Young Mentors. The students select candidates and request them to give lectures, and are in charge of preparing the venue and hosting the event.
