Title Measuring Differences Between Graphs: From Magnitude Homology to Causal Analysis
AbstractGraphs, consisting of vertices and edges, are widely used in various fields to represent relationships between objects. Given a collection of graphs, measuring how different their structures are and grouping similar graphs together is an important problem in both mathematics and practical applications. Magnitude, introduced by Leinster, is an invariant of finite metric spaces. It has several interpretations, such as the effective number of points or a measure of diversity. Magnitude homology is a refinement of magnitude that captures information about the structure of shortest paths in metric spaces. Otter introduced blurred magnitude homology, which combines magnitude homology with persistent homology, a well-known method in topological data analysis. In this talk, I will introduce a dissimilarity measure for weighted graphs based on blurred magnitude homology, and a method for clustering a collection of graphs using this measure. As a practical application, I will also present an example of clustering causal graphs obtained from statistical causal inference, and explain how their causal structures can be compared and analyzed.
