April 4, 2025 (Friday)
TA Committee (Kenji Tsunoda, Sumito Kurata)

Thank you for taking on the role of Teaching Assistant (TA) for the fiscal year 2025.

  1. Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities vary depending on the supervising faculty member. Please confirm the details of your duties with your supervising faculty member in advance. If you do not receive any communication from your supervising faculty member, please reach out to them to confirm your duties. If you have any questions, contact the TA Committee promptly.
    • For subjects other than those in the Department of Mathematics, the primary duties of a TA include grading quizzes and reports conducted during lectures. Generally, attendance at lectures is not required. Since the responsibilities may vary depending on the supervising faculty member (e.g., methods of handling quiz and report submissions), please consult with your supervising faculty member in advance. If there are any issues, contact the TA Committee.
    • For subjects in the Department of Mathematics, the primary duties of a TA include assisting with exercises, and attendance at exercises is generally required. Since the responsibilities may vary depending on the supervising faculty member, please consult with your supervising faculty member in advance. If there are any issues, contact the TA Committee.
  2. TA Attendance Record (Important Document for Salary Payment)
Please follow the instructions below regarding the TA attendance record:
    • By April 18 (Friday), submit your personal seal (not a bank seal). TAs affiliated with the Graduate School of Mathematics should submit it to the Mathematics/IMI Office (W1-D520), and TAs affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Graduate School should submit it to the Graduate School of Excellence Office (W1-A413).
    • By the 10th of each month, you will be asked to confirm your attendance record via email. Pay attention to the details in section (3) and report your work details by the specified date (around the 20th of each month) to the Mathematics Office (math@jimu.kyushu-u.ac.jp) for TAs affiliated with the Graduate School of Mathematics, and to the Graduate School of Excellence Office (gpmioffice@jimu.kyushu-u.ac.jp) for TAs affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Graduate School. If you do not report, you will not receive your salary.
    • After confirming your report via email, the office will create, stamp, and submit the attendance record.
  3. Reporting Work Details
For work done up to the 20th of each month, report the weeks you worked and the weeks you did not work to the office (Mathematics Office/Graduate School of Excellence Office, depending on your affiliation). For work from the 21st to the end of the month, consult with your supervising faculty member in advance and report your planned work.
    • If there are weeks when you did not work due to canceled classes, you will not be paid for that period.
    • Working hours are set at 1.5, 3, or 5 hours per week, depending on the subject. Confirm with your supervising faculty member.
    • Students in the doctoral program who also serve as Research Assistants (RAs) should ensure that their total weekly working hours do not exceed the limit (e.g., avoid overlapping working hours for TA and other duties). Pay attention to the details in the attendance record.
    • If you are unable to serve as a TA for an extended period, report this to the office.
    • If you feel that the TA duties are taking too much time beyond the set hours or if you have any issues, communicate directly with your supervising faculty member or contact the TA Committee.
  4. Submitting Documents
    • Faculty of Science (First Semester): Documents will be emailed from the office (if you do not receive the email, confirm with the Mathematics Office/Graduate School of Excellence Office, depending on your affiliation).
    • Faculty of Science (Second Semester): The office will contact you around August-September.
    • General Education (First Semester): Documents will be emailed from General Education (if you do not receive the email, confirm with the Mathematics Office/Graduate School of Excellence Office, depending on your affiliation).

If you have served as a TA before and wish to change your bank account this time, report this to the office when submitting your documents.
  8. Inability to Work Due to Circumstances
